Candied walnuts are relatively easy to make at home, by essentially coating baked walnuts with melted sugar and a bit of coarse salt. Whether you make them at home or buy them from a store, candied walnuts are high in fat and calories.

Fat

Candied walnuts have 8.9g of fat in a 1 oz. serving, according to the University of California-Berkeley. Store-bought candied walnuts from Trader Joe's have 17g of fat in a one ounce serving, which is 26% of the daily value of a 2000 calorie diet.

Calories

Homemade candied walnuts have approximately 113 calories per serving, with 80 of those calories coming from fat. Candied walnuts from Trader Joe's have 200 calories per serving, 75% of which come from fat.

Cholesterol

Candied walnuts, whether homemade or store-bought, are cholesterol free

Protein

Homemade candied walnuts have 2.1g of protein per serving while store-bought candied walnuts have 3g per serving.

Sodium

Store-bought candied walnuts have much more sodium per serving. Trader Joe's candied walnuts have 85mg of sodium per serving whereas homemade candied walnuts only have 0.3mg.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are comparable in both homemade, 7.9g, and store-bought candied walnuts, 10g, in a 1 oz. serving.
