TV ads featuring Marie Osmond or Dan Marino talking about Nutrisystem are ubiquitous. The long-running weight loss program is based on the glycemic index, which ranks how much the carbohydrates in certain foods affect your blood sugar levels. Besides meals, Nutrisystem offers several different Nutrisystem bars. They are divided into two categories: granola bars, such as the Apple Granola Bar for breakfast, and dessert bars, such as the Blueberry Lemon Dessert Bar.
Granola Bars
Nutrisystem granola bars are made to suit a variety of tastes. Options include Apple Granola, Chocolate Chip Naturally & Artificially Flavored Granola Bar, Chocolate Chip Granola Bar, Cinnamon Swirl Granola Bar, Cranberry Granola Bar and Peanut Butter Granola Bar. When eating a granola bar for breakfast, Nutrisystem's guidelines allow for additional food to be added along with the bar. For example, if you have a Cranberry Granola Bar for breakfast, Nutrisystem suggests adding a serving of yogurt; however, it is advised that you avoid additions if you're eating a bar for a snack.
Granola Bar Nutrition Differences
The nutritional values for all of Nutrisystem's granola bars are similar. All the granola bars have 150 calories, except the Cinnamon Swirl Bar, which has 160 calories. Carbohydrates are listed at 25 grams per bar, except for the Chocolate Chip Bar, which contains only 23 grams. Every bar contains 8 grams of protein. In terms of fat content, the Chocolate Chip Bar has the highest amount at 4 grams, and the Apple Granola has the lowest fat amount with only 1.5 grams.
Dessert Bars
There are a variety of Nutrisystem dessert bars as well: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolaty Nougat with Peanuts and Caramel, Cinnamon Bun, Fudge Graham, Mint Chocolate Crunch, Nourish Chocolate Peanut Butter and Blueberry Lemon Dessert. Since these bars are used mostly for snacks of desserts, Nutrisystem recommends you don't add any additional food, to ensure you stay within the diet guidelines.
Dessert Bar Nutrition Differences
The dessert bars have a broader range of nutrition values. The bar with the highest amount of calories, fat and carbs is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar. It contains 220 calories per bar, 10 grams fat and 28 grams of carbs. The bar containing the lowest amount of calories and carbs is the Mint Chocolate Crunch Bar, with only 140 calories and 11 grams of carbs, but it contains 8 grams fat.

Nutrisystem bars are formulated to fit into their specific diet guidelines, but if you're simply looking for less expensive snacks that are low in fat and calories, there are other options with nutritional values similar to those of Nutrisystem bars. Quaker Oats offers a wide variety of granola bars that contain only 90 calories. And Kellogg Special K cereal bars have 100 calories or less.
