There are several health conditions that a woman can develop that can cause her to have a high testosterone level. This high testosterone can be due to a decrease in the female hormones estrogen and progesterone or an increase in androgens. Women who have a high testosterone level may display undesirable symptoms, such as facial hair, a change in body shape, deepening of the voice and hair loss. Although the testosterone level may be high due to heredity, there are ways to lower the testosterone levels with medication and moderate changes to the diet.

Step 1

Have your hormone levels checked by a physician. Some symptoms of high testosterone may also be indicative of other medical conditions. These medical conditions may be serious and should be ruled out by way of testing the blood. A blood test will show all hormone levels, which will let your doctor know if your testosterone is high or your estrogen is low. This way you will have the most accurate treatment possible. These tests may also point out what's causing the hormone levels to be imbalanced, which may in itself require a different treatment.

Step 2

Cut out junk food and refined sweets. Cut out fats, sugars, carbohydrates and fast foods and incorporate whole foods and fruits, which will help to regulate the hormones and improve your overall health. It may also help to take a multivitamin if you do not eat regularly or if you have recently gotten over an illness.

Step 3

Take birth control pills. Combination birth control pills contain both synthetic estrogen and progesterone. These pills can be used to regulate the hormone levels and to prevent pregnancy. These pills have to be prescribed or given to you by a physician.

Step 4

Find an acupuncturist that performs electro-acupuncture. According to the American Physiological Society, electro-acupuncture treatments are known to reduce testosterone levels. If you exercise along with the electro-acupuncture sessions, you will lose weight and body mass.
