There are a variety of three-day detox diets but they tend to share key features. The emphasis is on cutting out processed foods, avoiding harmful substances like caffeine and alcohol and giving your body the opportunity to eliminate toxins so you lose weight, feel better and have more energy. Remember, these diets make drastic changes to your lifestyle so they should only be followed for three days, and you should consult your health care professional before starting any kind of detox.
Master Cleanse
The Master Cleanse, also called the Lemonade Diet, is designed to rapidly detox your body and help you lose weight. The cleanse is a liquid diet based on drinking lemonade made with fresh lemons, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. You can do it for as little as 24 hours but author Peter Glickman, in his book "Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days," suggests doing it for at least three days.
Juice Detox
According to "Detox for the Rest of Us" by Carole Jacobs and Patrice Johnson, a three-day juice detox eliminates bloating and relieves constipation to help you lose weight by flushing excess water and toxins out of your body. "Detox for the Rest of Us" recommends cutting out grain, meat, fish and dairy for several days prior to the cleanse. During the three days it suggests you juice a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure you're getting a range of vitamins and minerals. You may also want to add flaxseed or psyllium husks for extra fiber.
Spring Cleanse
Linda Page's Spring Cleanse is based on an abundance of leafy greens, fruit, water and probiotic foods such as yogurt to promote digestive health. The aim is to clear toxins from your digestive system in order to boost your energy and get you started on a healthy eating plan. Page recommends including herbal laxatives to keep your body regular and eliminate bloating.
Weekend Cleanse
The Weekend Cleanse is a Friday-to-Sunday plan is designed to break bad dietary habits, help you relax, energize you and start your weight loss. According to "Simple Cleanse: The Weekend Cleanse and Intestinal Health" by Jerry Hutchens, the core of the plan is a two-day fast from solid foods, accompanied by moderate exercise and lots of rest. It emphasizes the impact of relationships on well-being, and encourages you to spend time walking or relaxing with family and friends as part of the detox.
