If you have a sweet tooth, it can be difficult to resist a cinnamon roll along with your morning cup of coffee. However, this indulgence could undo your daily diet. The calorie count of the average cinnamon roll varies based on the type of roll.
Unglazed Cinnamon Roll
A standard cinnamon roll without glaze or frosting only contains 150 calories, according to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. This is just 7.5 percent of the recommended 2,000 daily calories. Consuming 7.5 percent of your calories with a single small pastry roll is not ideal, but it won't ruin your diet if you plan your other meals accordingly.
Sweetened Cinnamon Roll
A cinnamon roll sweetened with a sugary glaze or frosting adds more calories. The United States Department of Agriculture reports that a sweet cinnamon roll provides 310 calories. Based on a normal daily diet, 100 of those calories will be discretionary. In other words, 100 calories will be extra, adding to your body's fat stores.
Alternatives
For a lower-calorie alternative, opt for a whole wheat cinnamon roll. Or indulge your sweet tooth with a brownie. Brownies only provide about 80 calories, and chocolate is a good antioxidant when consumed in moderation.
