Whey protein is a powder made from cow's milk, according to Whey of Life. It is made from the proteins whey and casein. Casein accounts for 80 percent of the protein in milk and whey accounts for about 20 percent of it. Whey protein, unlike casein, is a higher quality protein and is the most nutritious of all proteins. Most of the people who use whey protein actually use it as a part of a bodybuilding plan. This nutritious protein can be used along with fruit and milk to make a delicious protein-packed shake.

Step 1

Scoop the desired amount of whey protein into the blender. Make sure you follow the instructions on the whey protein bottle.

Step 2

Clean and peel any fruit you wish to add to your whey protein shake. If you are using berries, add them in after washing.

Step 3

Chop any nuts you want to add into your shake. If you do not have a separate machine for this, add them into the blender first and turn your blender to chop mode. Then add the whey protein and fruit.

Step 4

Add the amount of milk stated on your whey protein bottle. If you are watching your weight, you can use low fat or skim.

Step 5

Add yogurt to the blender followed by ice. Return the top to the blender.

Step 6

Blend everything together, making sure there are no chucks of fruit, ice or unblended powder remaining.

Tips and Warnings

  • Add berries such as black berries, raspberries or blueberries that are high in antioxidants to increase the nutrition of your shake. You can also add powdered vitamins in with the mixture before blending. Add fish oil or flaxseed oil to your protein shake to increase the amount of good fats in the shake. Use a blender that can blend ice if you want your smoothie cold. Using a glass ice-friendly blender, will keep your blender from cracking.
  • Make sure to go by the instructions on your whey protein bottle. Some whey proteins that may be mixed with other proteins can contain cholesterol, which is harmful if too much is ingested.
