The three-day fruit detox diet, known as the Fruit Flush Diet, was created by Jay Robb, a clinical nutritionist. The three-day fruit detox diet was designed to help dieters remove toxins from the body, shed excess pounds and boost energy levels. The three-day diet consists of consuming fruits, vegetables, chicken, protein drinks and water.
Day One Instructions
According to Every Diet, day one of the fruit flush diet requires consumption of a protein drink every two hours, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m. At 6 p.m., an evening meal consists of a salad made with 3 to 6 cups of raw vegetables, 3 to 6 oz. of lean chicken and 1 tbsp. of olive oil. No additional meals are allowed.

Vegetables, Fruits and Proteins Allowed
According to the Jay Robb Enterprises website, any vegetables can be used for the dinner salad except starchy vegetables. The Fruit Flush Diet recommends purchasing fresh and organic vegetables. For best results and to receive the highest enzyme and mineral content, Jay Robb recommends fresh organic fruits be consumed. Dieters are also instructed to avoid frozen, dried and canned fruits. The protein powder should be free of artficial ingredients and the chicken should be lean.
Things to Avoid
According to the Fruit Flush Diet instructions, all flavored beverages, coffee and tea should be avoided. The only fluid allowed is filtered or pure bottled water. Consumption of at least 12 glasses of water daily is recommended. The Fruit Flush Diet also instructs dieters to refrain from exercise during the three-day detox. However, the Jay Robb website reports that 20 minutes of light walking may be acceptable. The website also claims that dieters who exercise during the detox may lose less weight than those who do not.
Considerations
According to Kids Health, detox diets are not scientifically proven and can have harmful side effects. KidsHealth also states that individuals should aim to consume a healthy diet full of vegetables, fiber, fruits and abundant water on a regular basis. The kidneys and liver are designed to naturally eliminate the body's toxins. Adopting healthy habits may help your organs perform at optimal levels without the need to detox.
