How to Change a Weslo Belt

Weslo treadmill walking belts can wear over a period of time, even with inconsistent use. Dark streaking along the belt where you walk and seam separation are visual signs that a walking belt needs replacing. Grooves cut into the underside of the platform and inconsistencies in the rigidity of the belt are wear-and-tear signs hidden from view. By consistently checking the belt and deck for wear, you can catch the signs of a worn Weslo belt and replace it before damage occurs to the treadmill's electronics.

Step 1

Disconnect the key/clip from the Weslo treadmill console, turn the unit off and unplug it from the wall receptacle.

Step 2

Locate the motor hood screws securing the hood to the frame. Depending on your Weslo model, four to six screws hold the hood to the treadmill. The screws are on both sides and the back of the hood. Remove the screws to remove the motor hood.

Step 3

Draw a line on the front roller adjustment bolt with a felt-tip marker to indicate its position in the front roller/pulley. Locate the front roller adjustment bolt on the right front of the treadmill frame.

Step 4

Create slack in the Weslo walking belt by loosening the two rear roller adjustment bolts. The bolts are found in the rear roller end cap on the left and right sides of the frame. Turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise using the hex key provided with the Weslo treadmill or choose a hex key from a set that best fits the bolt's head.

Step 5

Remove the front roller adjustment bolt from the front roller and the frame with the hex key. Do not misplace the roller adjustment washer as you pull the bolt from the treadmill. Remove both rear roller adjustment bolts and washers from the frame.

Step 6

Disengage the rear end cap from the treadmill frame. In some Weslo treadmills, removing the rear roller adjustment bolts allows the end cap to pull from the treadmill. Check your model for additional bolts holding the end cap to the frame.

Step 7

Pry the left and right foot rails from the Weslo platform. Use a slotted screwdriver inserted between the foot rail and the platform to pull the foot rails off the treadmill. Removing the foot rails exposes the platform screws.

Step 8

Remove the platform screws from both sides of the walking platform. Three or four platform screws hold the walking platform to the frame on each side of the walking belt. The number of platform screws depends on the Weslo treadmill model you own.

Step 9

Tilt the Weslo walking platform up onto its left side with the help of a partner. Do not pull the front roller from the pulley/flywheel and motor. Slide the worn Weslo walking belt from the rollers and platform; then install the replacement belt.

Step 10

Center the replacement walking belt between the belt guides located beneath the walking platform. Carefully lower the platform onto the treadmill frame.

Step 11

Replace the rear end cap. Install both rear roller adjustment bolts and washers into the rear roller, but do not tighten them.

Step 12

Screw the walking platform back to the frame with the platform screws you removed in Step 8. Insert the front roller adjustment bolt and washer into the front roller. Tighten the bolt with the hex key until it reaches the line you drew in Step 3.

Step 13

Replace the left and right foot rails over the walking platform.

Step 14

Alternate turning each rear roller adjustment bolt one quarter turn clockwise to tighten the belt. Continue turning the bolts until you can only lift the new walking belt 2 to 3 inches away from the walking platform.

Step 15

Plug the Weslo treadmill electrical cord into the wall receptacle, turn on the unit and connect the key/clip to the console. Operate the treadmill at a speed between 3 and 5 mph. Walk on the treadmill and note any slipping or sticking of the new replacement walking belt. If the belt slips, continue to tighten using the procedures in Step 14. If the belt sticks, turn the bolts one quarter turn counterclockwise, alternating between each rear roller adjustment bolt.

Step 16

Reinstall the motor hood to the Weslo treadmill frame.
