The Weider brand was first established by Joe Weider in 1936. The goal of the company is to provide education, products and training systems for bodybuilding and fitness people around the world. The Weider Bodybuilding Program is a system of principles that guide you in developing your own individualized workout program. You can apply these guidelines to develop your body and reach your fitness goals.
Weider Bodybuilding Training System
Weider's program can be purchased as a set of four DVDs, one CD-ROM and a 46-page system guide. It covers different exercises, techniques and methods of training to develop your physique. The system is based on three broad principles. Each is broken down to help you plan your training, arrange your workout and perform your exercises.
Planning Your Training Cycles
This first principle is based on the concept of periodization and involves breaking up your year into smaller sections for strength, mass and contest preparation. This will help you avoid training plateaus and reduce your risk of injury. This section also teaches you about splitting your exercise routines for increased intensity and maximum recovery as well as how to progressively overload your muscles to achieve the best possible results.
Arranging Your Workout
Arranging your workout involves some of the more advanced bodybuilding and strength-training principles. Some concepts introduced are the recommendation of performing multiple sets per exercise versus one set. One set is recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine for general health but is not enough to build significant muscle mass or strength. Another method in this category is pyramiding. You begin your sets with a lower weight and perform a higher number of repetitions. At each set you increase the weight and do fewer reps, allowing the muscle to warm up.
Performing Each Exercise
No matter the weight you lift or how many exercises you perform, technique is vital to achieve the best result and reduce your risk of injury. This principle focuses on different ways to perform each exercise, such as negatives or partial reps. Employing methods such as these will allow you to lift more weight and increase size and strength. It is also another way to avoid plateau by forcing your muscles to adapt.
Importance of Diet
You can work hours each week in the gym, but if you do not eat right, you will not see the results you desire, especially for bodybuilding. The Weider Training System has a session dedicated to diet and nutrition. It covers the importance of carbohydrates, fats and protein as well as nutrient timing. There is also a variety of Weider nutritional products available, including fat burners and creatine supplements, which are common in bodybuilding.
