Athletes who participate in the extreme sport of ultimate fighting utilize a safety precaution known as a wrist wrap. The wrist wraps help to pad the bare knuckles of the opponents in hopes of preventing serious injuries. Skateboarders and snowboarders use the wrap to provide support for a weak wrist that has been injured in the past. Everlast creates various styles of wrist wraps for boxers and mixed martial arts fighters. According to Everlast, the company has been producing wrist wraps and boxing glove designs since 1917.
Step 1
Unravel both Everlast wrist wraps. Locate the loops found on either ends of the wrist wraps. Insert the thumb of your left hand into the loop of one of the wrist wraps. Hold your hand so your palm remains parallel with the ground. Place the wrap over the top of your wrist to cover the large bones.
Step 2
Wrap the Everlast support around your left wrist three times. Place the Everlast wrist wrap over the space between your forefinger and thumb. Repeat the wrapping process three times while making sure the cloth material covers the knuckle and palm of your hand. Stretch the wrap over your palm once more and bring it around your left wrist.
Step 3
Pull the Everlast wrap over the top of your hand and position it between your smallest finger and ring finger. Bring the wrap around the outside of your thumb and cross over the top of your hand once more. Insert the wrap between your middle and ring finger. Bring the Everlast wrap around your thumb and position it in the middle of your middle and index finger.
Step 4
Extend the Everlast wrap over and around your left wrist once more. Place the wrap between your thumb and forefinger. Wrap the cloth material around your knuckles three more times. Pull the wrap over and around your left wrist. Stretch the wrap around the palm of your hand until you begin to run out of material.
Step 5
Fasten the Velcro tab around your wrist to complete the wrapping technique. Repeat the wrapping process with your right hand and wrist. Squeeze your hands together to ensure the wraps do not impede your movement. Strike a punching bag to ensure the wraps have been properly fastened around your knuckles. Remove the Velcro strip to make adjustments.
