The Sunshine State offers year-round moderate weather and opportunities for outdoor recreational activities such as walking, biking and swimming to keep your body toned and in shape. When the weather is not cooperating or for those who prefer indoor workouts, there are male fitness clubs throughout the state. You’ll find clubs that focus on weight loss, bodybuilding, boxing and general fitness. Individual club programs vary, but programs such as Spinning®, crossfit training and kickboxing are available at many of these fitness clubs.
Boxing
Boxing stimulates all muscle groups, provides a combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercise and improves strength, power, coordination and endurance. You’ll find boxing gyms throughout Florida, including the Clearwater Boxing Center, the Jupiter Boxing Club and Martial Arts Training Center, and the Normandy Gym in Miami Beach. Boxing workouts typically include speed-ball, spring-ball and medicine-ball work, skipping, heavy bag work, running and wind-sprints.
Bodybuilding
Men interested in bodybuilding, be it for recreation or competition, will find bodybuilding gyms throughout Florida. Gold’s Gym is a well-known bodybuilding gym franchise with 36 locations in Florida. This franchise offers classes on body sculpting, core training and strength training, and has private classes as well as training sessions with male personal trainers. Bodybuilders can enjoy an atmosphere focused on power lifting at one of 17 Powerhouse Gym locations across Florida, 10 of which are in the greater Jacksonville area. Programs vary from one Powerhouse Gym to another. The downtown Tampa location offers O2 VR Cycling, a cycling class that includes timed blasts of pure oxygen, while West Palm Beach’s Powerhouse Gym offers men programs and classes that include racquetball, yoga and martial arts.
Weight Loss
A regular fitness routine, proper nutrition and motivation are necessary to achieve weight loss goals. The YMCA offers men, women and children affordable fitness centers throughout Florida. The YMCA of Central Florida offers 25 locations as well as the opportunity to join the YMCA Get Fit Club. This program gives you support, guidance and motivation to meet your weight loss goals, and is a complimentary program offered to all YMCA members. You’ll find a variety of fitness programs at the many 24 Hour Fitness gyms across Florida. All locations offer personal trainers who help you customize a training program tailored to your fitness level and suited to your weight loss goal. In addition, 24 Hour Fitness offers members a range of free and simple Web tools to track success and help with motivation.
Boot Camp
Attending a boot camp is an effective way to jump-start a fitness routine and make lifestyle changes. Train one hour a day, three days a week for four weeks at the Naples Fitness Boot Camp’s men-only boot camp. Naples Fitness boasts results that include 3 percent to 5 percent reduction in body fat and between five and 12 pounds of weight loss. Exercises include short distance running, jumping rope, sport yoga, obstacle courses and fitness kickboxing. Naples Fitness Boot Camp offers a chance to try one fitness session for free before purchasing a boot camp package. Men’s Fitness Boot Camp Vacation, based out of Tampa, offers men the opportunity to get fit while participating in an all-inclusive fitness camp that includes five hours of structured fitness activities a day.
General Fitness
According to MayoClinic.com, regular exercise offers benefits beyond weight loss, including better sleep, improved mood and the prevention of chronic health conditions. You’ll find gyms throughout Florida where you can maintain your healthy lifestyle and pattern of regular physical activity. Located near Interstate 95 in Jupiter, the Jupiter Fitness Center features more than 175 pieces of fitness and body sculpting equipment. Membership is required; Jupiter Fitness offers a range of membership options, including a weekend-only membership. Group classes are offered. Male trainers are available for male members. Another option: Rock climbing is a full-body workout; you can use climbing techniques to gain muscle and lose weight at Tallahassee Rock Gym or On the Edge in Melbourne. No experience is necessary to join either gym, but novice climbers must take a 30-minute orientation class.
