If you took a sack lunch to school during childhood, you've probably eaten at least one Little Debbie snack. Little Debbie products are still around, and with a little information, you can decide if you still want to eat them.
Types
According to the company website, Little Debbie produces six varieties of snack products: bars such as fig bars, breakfast pastries such as Honey Buns, cakes and brownies, such as Devil Squares, cookies such as Oatmeal Cream Pies, holiday snacks such as Christmas Tree Cakes, and other snacks, such as Cherry Pies.
Calories
Calorie content varies depending on what product you select. For the calorie-conscious, Little Debbie offers 100-calorie snacks, such as Nutty Bar Singles and 100 Calorie Snow Puffs cookies. Other products have more calories; for example, two Swiss Cake Rolls contain 270 calories, according to Fat Secret.
Fat and Sugar
Little Debbie snacks are generally high in fat and sugar. For example, Swiss Cake Rolls contain 12 g of fat, 28 percent of the recommended daily value, according to Fat Secret. This snack also contains 25 g of sugar, or about 6 teaspoons.
Healthy Alternatives
If Little Debbie snacks are too high in sugar and fat for you, you can make your own treats instead, which will allow you to control exactly what goes into your food. Nutritionist Ellie Krieger recommends using oatmeal in cookies to up the fiber content. See the Resources section for the recipe.
