Centrum Silver is a brand of multivitamins developed to be an age-adjusted supplement for people aged 50 years and older. This product is stated to not only improve energy with B vitamins, but also to promote bone, heart and eye health for middle-aged adults. Specifically, Centrum Silver contains calcium and vitamin D to maintain bone strength; vitamins B6, B12 and lycopene, which are associated with cardiac health; and lutein and vitamins A, C and E for good vision. In addition to the general product, Centrum also manufactures men’s and women’s formulas of Centrum Silver.

Gastrointestinal Effects

Side effects typically are rare with this supplement if it is taken as directed; however, at times minor symptoms do occur until the body becomes accustomed to taking the supplement. Possible side effects may include nausea or an upset stomach, diarrhea or constipation.

Other Effects

Occasionally, individuals who begin taking Centrum Silver report having headaches. Another possible symptom of taking this supplement is the complaint of a bad aftertaste or unpleasant taste in the mouth.

Serious Effects

In very rare cases, an allergic reaction may occur in response to taking this product, and one should seek emergency treatment immediately if any of the following symptoms occur: hives or rash with itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness and swelling about the face that includes the lips, tongue or throat. Again, supplements such as multivitamins and minerals are not expected to, nor do they usually, produce serious side effects if they are taken as the label instructs.
