In her book "Naturally Healthy Hair: Herbal Treatments and Daily Care for Fabulous Hair," Mary Beth Janssen writes that dry hair is often dull in appearance and feels brittle. Dry hair craves moisture and needs protein replenishment. It also needs protection with emollients, which will help the hair shaft to retain moisture. Using the wrong shampoo or styling products can be damaging for hair, so its good to know which products can help get hair back to its normal, healthy state.

Dry Hair Shampoo Product

"Allure," the beauty expert magazine, did a test of numerous beauty products and came up with a list of the best of the best. For dry hair, the pick was John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo, which retails around $6.49. The shampoo has silk proteins and olive oil to moisturize and help wit frizzy, dry fly away hairs. It also has a conditioner to accompany it, and you can find it at most drugstore retail outlets.

Deep-Conditioning Masks

Total Beauty did some research to find the best deep conditioners on the market for dry hair. Phyto Phytocitrus Vital Radiance Mask With Plant Butters and Grapefruit Extract, retailing at $38, came in at top of the list. This formula uses citrus extracts to smooth, soften and coat the hair shafts. Frederic Fekkai Protein Rx Anti-Breakage Treatment Mask is helpful for brittle, color-treated hair and retails for $28.50.

On the more affordable end is Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask, retailing for $6.99. It uses plant extracts to provide deep moisture and is a once-a-week conditioning mask. Wella System Professional Power Mask, which retails for $38, provides deep nourishment, especially for over-processed or thick, coarse hair.

Other Dry Hair Formulas

Total Beauty also recommends Joico K-Pak Reconstruct Liquid Reconstructor, which retails for $15.49 and is a liquid protein spray. It is convenient because you can leave it in your hair; there is no need to rinse it out. For a budget-friendly combination option, try Garnier Fructis Haircare Fortifying 2-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner for Dry or Damaged Hair as a top dry hair combination formula. It retails for only $3.99.

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo, retailing at $19, is another dry hair formula you do not need to wash out. It will also increase hair volume and is perfect for those on the go.
