Your height is somewhat predetermined. It comes from the genes you got from your parents. It's not possible to tell exactly how tall you'll be, but you can look to your parents to get an estimate. Your health as a child helps determine if you will meet your full height potential. Most people stop growing in their late teens to early twenties, so it's important to get the right nutrition while you're still growing if you want to be as tall as you can be.
Step 1
Eat foods rich in calcium, like leafy greens, fortified cereals and low-fat dairy products. Calcium is essential because it both helps bones grow and keeps them strong and healthy.
Step 2
Take enough vitamin D, which helps your bones absorb calcium. Vitamin D isn't plentiful in many foods, but it can be found in egg yolks, fortified milk, cereal and liver. Play outside in direct sunlight for 10 to 15 minutes per day. Apply sunscreen after 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3
Eat foods rich in lean, quality proteins to support your body's ability to build new, healthy tissues and strong muscles, which support your skeletal system. Eat lean meats, low-fat or fat free dairy, beans and nuts.
Step 4
Help your body absorb the nutrients it needs to promote cell growth by getting enough B vitamins. B vitamins are more commonly known by names like niacin, riboflavin, biotin and thiamine, among others. Choose leafy greens, beans, meat and dairy products. Take a B12 supplement if you're a vegan or vegetarian as it's most regularly found in meat.
Step 5
Eat foods that contain iodine. Iodine helps keep your thyroid glands healthy. Thyroid glands helps regulate your growth. Children ages one to eight need 90mcg per day and teens and adults over 14 need 150mcg. Iodine is found in iodized salt, vegetables and grains grown in iodized soil and seafood.
