According to the Merck Manual Online Medical Library, cholecystitis or inflammation of the gallbladder is a common ailment resulting from gallbladder stones. Cholecystitis is the result of a gallbladder stone blocking the bile duct and can result in severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and loss of appetite. Bile is made in the liver and stored in liquid form in the gallbladder. Bile is necessary in order to digest fat and gallstones form from harden bile. Eighty percent of gallstones are caused by high cholesterol in the bile. To avoid gallbladder stones, avoid certain foods that are high in cholesterol and fat.
Meat
Red meat is high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Steak, hamburger and other fatty red meats should be used minimally in the diet. Saturated fat, according to MayoClinic.com, can elevate the total cholesterol as well as the LDL or bad cholesterol. Animal products contain the most cholesterol. Red meat, chicken, pork, lamb and egg yolk should be used sparingly in order to reduce cholesterol counts. MayoClinic.com recommends that no more than 10 percent of the daily calories come from fat. In order to avoid gallbladder stones, eat less meat.
Fast Foods
Fast foods are extremely high in cholesterol and fat. A sausage McMuffin contains 27 g of fat and 285 mg of cholesterol, according to CalorieCount.com. A KFC chicken breast is saturated with 27 g of fat and 105 mg of cholesterol. In another example of a fast food, a Bavarian cream chocolate donut from Dunkin' Donuts has 9 g of fat and 30 g of cholesterol. When the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.org analyzed kid's meals at several fast food chains, they found the meals were packed full of calories, sodium and saturated fat. In order to lower cholesterol counts and avoid gallbladder problems it is advisable to stay away from fast foods.
Commercially Baked Goods
Commercially baked cookies and other pastries according to MayoClinic.com, contain trans fats a particularly bad type of fat. Margarines, crackers and snack foods can contain trans fats. LDL or the bad cholesterol is elevated by trans fats while HDL or the good cholesterol is lowered. Another name for trans fats is partially hydrogenated oil. Commercially baked cookies and pastries should be avoided in order to control high cholesterol in the bile.
