Skin is often taken for granted until it is somehow irritated. Itchy skin feels uncomfortable, especially if it is also dry and tight. According to the Mayo Clinic, itchy skin can be caused by a virus, allergy or chronic condition such as eczema. Dry winter air can also cause itchy skin. Dry skin is also common during pregnancy. Many treatments can relieve itchy skin, including bath products.

Baking Soda

Adding baking soda to warm bath water can relieve itchy skin, according to the University of Connecticut Medical Center. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to an entire bath and soak for 10 minutes. Do not make the bath water too hot or it will cause skin to dry out further, leading to more itching.

Oatmeal

Adding oatmeal to a bath provides relief from many skin conditions that cause itchiness. Oatmeal baths are used to soothe itching from chicken pox; eczema; and poison ivy, oak and sumac. Use 100 percent colloidal oatmeal, which is made from rolled oats ground into a fine powder. Add one cup or more of oatmeal to bath water and allow it to fully dissolve.

Moisturizers

Use moisturizers after your bath or shower. Pat skin dry and apply moisturizer or lotion over your entire body and allow it to be absorbed. Use caution with anti-itch lotions and moisturizers; the University of Iowa reports that these products can be more irritating to dry skin.
