Ortho Tri-Cyclen, a combination of the hormones ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate, is a pill used to prevent pregnancy.

Features

Ortho Tri-Cyclen contains female hormones that prevent ovulation (egg release), thicken cervical mucus, and thin the uterus, all which prevent pregnancy.

Side Effects

According to Drugs.com, Ortho Tri-Cyclen side effects include headache, fatigue, breast pain, nausea and weight changes. Call your doctor if these side effects develop.

Precaution

Do not use Ortho Tri-Cyclen if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about your medical history and allergies.

Other Uses

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is also used to treat acne in females at least 15 years old who have started their period and have had no previous adverse reactions to birth control, according to RxList.

Pill Failure

According to the RxList, 5 percent of pregnancies result from Ortho Tri-Cyclen failure. Call your doctor if you are taking this medication and suspect you are pregnant.
