How to Relieve Moist Itchy Skin

Having skin that feels damp and itchy is not fun. Although itchy skin is usually associated with dryness, overly moist skin and itching sometimes go hand in hand, especially when a fungal infection is involved. People with diabetes often have skin complications such as Candida albicans, a fungus that creates itchy rashes in warm, moist skin folds, according to the American Diabetes Association. Whether you have a fungal problem or another condition causing moist, itchy skin, basic prevention steps can get you back on the road to good skin health.

Step 1

Shower or bathe daily and after exercising, and dry off thoroughly. Sweat can cause skin to feel damp and itchy. Lukewarm or cool water may be gentler on your skin and can relieve some discomfort, according to a MayoClinic.com article.

Step 2

Avoid heavily perfumed lotions and other skin products. They can sometimes cause or worsen itchy skin.

Step 3

Avoid scratching itchy areas, which can cause cuts, bleeding and infection. If necessary, cover the itchy area with a cold compress to prevent scratching.

Step 4

Wear cotton clothing that isn't too textured or restrictive. Cotton absorbs sweat and allows your skin to breathe, keeping it dry and cool. When exercising, consider wearing "high-performance" athletic clothing that wicks away sweat, and always change clothes after working out.
