The copious types of beers from local brewers to international imports have varying levels of calories and alcohol by volume, or ABV. Although there is not a direct correlation, generally, the higher the percentage ABV, the higher the calories.
Low-alcoholic Domestic Beers
Beers with little or no alcohol have the fewest calories. O'Doul's, which is sold as a nonalcoholic beer and has .4 percent ABV, has 70 calories for a 12-oz. glass. Pabst Extra Light Low Alcohol beer, with 2.5 ABV, has only 67 calories.
Light Imported Beers
Beck's Light has a 2.3 percent ABV and 64 calories in a 12-oz. glass. Molson Light has 2.4 ABV and 82 calories. Amstel Light and Heineken Special Light have 3.9 percent ABV and 99 calories.
Middle-Range Alcohol Beers
For a stronger beer, some beers with ABVs higher than 5 percent supply lower-calorie options. A 12-oz. glass of Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale contains about 129 calories, Sam Adams Pale Ale has 145 calories, and Grolsch Lager beer has 145 calories.
