The ProForm 385 CSX is a stationary recumbent exercise bike manufactured by Icon Health & Fitness, Inc., which is one of the top selling companies in the world for home fitness equipment. The bike comes with eight programmed workouts, a dual grip heart rate monitor in the handles, adjustable resistance settings and a cooling fan. As of November 2010, this model of recumbent exercise bike is no longer directly sold by ProForm, but it is available for purchase from third-party retailers.

Workout Footprint

The ProForm 385 CSX measures 55-inches long by 20-inches wide by 42-inches high when fully assembled. The machine features a step-through design, which means that the middle bar connecting the seat to the machine is merely inches off the ground and easy to step over when mounting the bike. When compared to a popular recumbent bikes in the same price range, such as the Schwinn 230, the ProForm 385 CSX is more compact and would be a good choice if you want to saving space.

Adjustability

The distance between the seat and the pedals, as well as the pedal size on the ProForm 385 CSX exercise bike can be adjusted to suit your body size. To adjust the seat, turn the knob on the base of the frame counterclockwise to loosen it and then slide the seat forward or backward to the proper position. Tighten the adjustment knob when finished and sit on the bike. There should be a slight bend in your knees when the pedals are their furthest forward. To change the dimensions of the pedals to fit your feet, pull the ends of the straps out of the tabs in the pedals and adjust them to the best size for you. Insert the strap back in the tab when you are finished with your adjustment.

Exercising Room

Though the ProForm 358 CSX is a relatively compact recumbent exercise bike, the owner’s manual recommends that you have ample space in all directions around the bike for safety reasons. A minimum of 2 feet of clear space in all directions from the bike is recommended by ProForm. Additionally, the company recommends that you place a thin rubber exercising mat between the bike and floor or carpet. This will slightly increase the overall height of the machine.
