Turkey and cheese fit well in a healthy diet. Turkey is a lean meat and good source of protein. Cheese is a good source of calcium and protein, but should be consumed in moderation to limit fat and calories.

Types

Calories in cheese will vary depending upon the type of cheese you choose. Varieties such as asiago, blue, cheddar, cream, feta, fontina, goat or swiss range from 80 to 150 calories per serving. Calories in turkey can vary as well, depending on whether you are eating deli meat, ground turkey, baked turkey or fried turkey.

One slice of deli turkey breast meat contains about 22 calories, according to CalorieKing.com. A 1-oz. slice of American cheese has 105 calories.

Amounts

A 1-oz. slice of swiss cheese has 106 calories, while 1 oz. of cream cheese contains 99 calories. Mozzarella cheese with part skim milk contains 72 calories per ounce.

A serving of sliced deli turkey meat has fewer calories than roasted turkey - 1 oz. of roasted light turkey meat contains about 40 calories.

Sandwiches

The calories in a turkey and cheese sandwich depend on the type of bread and amount of cheese and turkey. A thin slice of white bread has about 24 calories, while a large slice has 80 calories. An average slice of wheat bread has about 65 calories.

A sandwich with two slices of turkey, two slices of swiss cheese and two slices of wheat bread will weigh in at around 416 calories.
