How to Prepare Ginger for Hypertension

Ginger is a popular medicinal plant renowned for its many health benefits. This pungent herb has been shown to reduce hypertension or high blood pressure when taken regularly in tea form. A study published in "Vascular Pharmacology" demonstrated that a water extraction of fresh ginger may function as a natural calcium channel blocker, stimulate healthy heart muscle contraction and dilate blood vessels. Consult your health care provider for advice regarding the benefits of this herb.

Step 1

Wash and peel the ginger.

Step 2

Cut the ginger into thin slices.

Step 3

Fill the small pot with water, add the ginger pieces and bring the water to a boil.

Step 4

Cover the pot and turn the stove down to a low simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 5

Pour the mixture through the sieve into the cup; cool and enjoy.

Tips and Warnings

  • More or less ginger may be added to the pot depending on your preference. If the tea is too potent, dilute it by adding some boiled water to your cup. Leftover pieces may be eaten or used for future extractions. Ginger can be enjoyed in this form throughout the day. Chopped ginger can also be added to food as seasoning.
