Carlson Laboratories makes Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil, a liquid fish oil dietary supplement. Carlson Laboratories bottles Norwegian cold-water fish oil in Norway. An independent FDA-registered laboratory tests Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil for freshness and purity, according to the company's website, which also reports that Carlson fish oil supplements are free of heavy metals, mercury and other toxic contaminants. Consult your physician before using this or any dietary supplement.

Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil may reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, strong clinical evidence exists supporting omega-3 fatty acids for their role in the prevention of heart disease. MedLinePlus, a service of the National Institutes of Health, states that fish oil helps lower triglyceride levels, a major risk factor in heart disease. Colorado State University reports that omega-3 fatty acids found in fish can lower LDL, or "bad," cholesterol as well, another primary risk factor for heart disease.

Reduced Rheumatoid Arthritis

Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil may reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Researchers at the Division of Rheumatology at Albany Medical College found that high doses of fish oil relieved pain and inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis who discontinued over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The University of Michigan Health System recommends taking 3,000 mg of EPA and DHA daily to relieve rheumatoid arthritis, noting that it may take up to three month to notice results. Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil contains 800 mg of EPA and 500 mg of DHA per serving.

Lower Blood Pressure

Carlson Omega-3 Fish Oil can lower high blood pressure, a risk factor for both heart attack and stroke. Writing in the Feb. 15, 2010, issue of "Cellular and Molecular Biology," Dr. Trevor A. Mori says, "There is substantial evidence that omega-3 fatty acids reduce blood pressure," especially in hypertensive individuals or those with high-normal blood pressure. He cites 3 to 4 g per day as the dosage likely to reduce blood pressure.
