What Is a Good Diet to Lose Weight Quickly?

In order to lose weight, you need to follow a healthy diet that incorporates all the nutrients while reducing your caloric intake. This includes getting an adequate amount of carbohydrates, protein and fat. Trying to lose too much weight too quickly by trying an extreme diet may be hazardous to your health and will probably result in you gaining the weight back.

Calories

Calories are a way of measuring the amount of energy in food, and every food item has a different amount of calories. Our bodies need calories in order to get the energy needed for life processes. Therefore, we need to consume a certain amount of calories each day. The actual amount varies from person to person based on weight, gender and physical activity.

In order to lose weight quickly, you need to combine an exercise routine with a caloric restriction. There are about 3,500 calories in 1 lb. Therefore, in order to lose 1 lb. a week, you need to reduce your calories by 500 per day.

Carbohydrates

Many diets will recommend limiting your intake of carbohydrates. However, carbs are your body's main source of energy and are an important part of your diet. The important part is eating the right kind of carbs. Incorporate whole grains into your diet while reducing your consumption of refined grains. Whole grains contain much more vitamins and minerals and provide numerous health benefits, such as lowering your cholesterol level. Refined grains lose much nutrient content during the milling process and usually found in unhealthy, sugary snacks like cookies and cakes.

Protein

Protein is vital in the human body, as it helps to build almost every bodily tissue. However, protein is most often found in animal products, some of which are high in fat. To lose weight quickly, stick to lean proteins like fish or poultry. Another option is to try to eat vegetarian protein sources. Items like beans, lentils and soy products are all very high in protein but contain just a fraction of the fat and calorie content.

Fat

Fat should never be eliminated from the diet, even if you are trying to lose weight, because it performs essential functions in the body. Like carbohydrates, however, you should try to eat healthy fats. Stick to unsaturated fats, which can help lower disease risk, and avoid saturated and trans fats whenever possible. Good sources of unsaturated fats are fish, nuts and some oils, such as olive oil.

Considerations

Remember that you need to combine diet with exercise in order to burn the calories needed to lose weight. In addition, set realistic goals when trying to lose weight. You will not be able to lose all your excess pounds overnight, and if you lose too much weight too quickly, you are more likely to gain it back.
