According to the Peer Trainer website, a serving of their own recipe for turkey pot pie contains 227 calories. The Fit Day site says 1 cup of turkey pot pie has about 540 calories. Different recipies, restaurant pot pies and packaged store-bought versions will all differ in calorie content.
Types
Store-bought turkey pot pies can range from about 400 to over 1,000 calories. Some restaurant versions have up to 1,200 calories. Pay attention to serving size, as much of the range in calories is due to varied portions. But using ingredients like margarine and milk instead of butter and heavy cream will also make a difference.
Identification
A turkey pot pie consists of vegetables, spices and bouillon or broth inside of a biscuit crust. You can use onions, celery, carrots, potatoes, peas or any other vegetables you desire. The pot pie may also contain milk, sour cream, mushroom soup or heavy cream.
Tips
The Eating Well site recommends using reduced-fat sour cream in the sauce to reduce calories. Combine half whole wheat flour and half white flour and use nonfat buttermilk for the biscuit crust. Instead of butter, use canola oil. Add fewer potatoes and use more of the other vegetables.
