Calories in Dried, Unsweetened Cherries

While fresh cherries may taste tart, dehydrating them concentrates the natural sugars to sweeten the fruit without adding extra sugar. Unsweetened dried cherries can add texture and flavor to your breakfast cereal or dinner salad.

Nutrition

A 40 g serving, about 1/4 cup, of dried cherries contains 130 calories and 32 g of total carbohydrates, only one of which comes from fiber. The remainder of the carbohydrates consist of the sugars that natural concentrate during the dehydration process.

Benefits and Warnings

Dried cherries contain a great deal of calories by volume due to their high sugar content. Dried cherries are rich in vitamin A and are sodium-, fat- and cholesterol-free, but are high in simple sugar.

Serving Tips

Sprinkle a small handful of unsweetened dried cherries on oatmeal or granola to add natural sweetness with more additional nutrients than table sugar. Toss dried cherries into salads or trail mix for added texture and flavor, and substitute dried cherries for raisins in baked goods recipes for new twist.
