The sport of archery has many facets from the targets you hit, the types you play or even the bows that you use. Florida offers many archery clubs in locations across the state where you can practice your accuracy on challenging ranges, or even test your skill in tournaments. Bring the entire family to learn this sport at clubs that are members of organizations such as the Florida Archery Association and the National Field Archery Association.

Olympic Archery

Olympic archery using the recurve bow for its advantage in increased power is practiced in several Florida archery clubs. Everglades Archers in Miami-Dade County is a nonprofit organization that is part of the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) and Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD). Everglades also works with youth groups including the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts. Tournaments held annually include state, field and 3D archery tournaments. To land a bull's-eye on the club's signature 80-yard shot, aim straight across a lake and through the woods to hit your mark.

3D Archery

A type of target archery called 3D archery is played similar to golf, in that you must guess the distance to your target and aim your target for the highest score. Choctaw Bowmen is an archery club established in 1953 and is the oldest club of its kind still on its original location. This club offers 3D shooting classes and hosts tournaments that are open to members as well as the public. This club is in Niceville near the Northwest Florida Regional Airport.

Compound Archery

Another type of bow used in archery is the compound bow, which can include accessories such as telescopic sites as well as release aids. Sarasota County Archers is a nonprofit archery club where you can use both compound and traditional bows to practice over 10 wooded acres. Since this club is on a wildlife preserve, conserving the natural integrity of this area is critical. Indoor and lighted outdoor ranges are provided. Club meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.

Family Memberships

Many archery clubs in Florida offer membership for any skill level, and this includes family memberships. This allows families to learn a sport and practice it together. Daytona Archers in Daytona offers both single and family memberships for its club. Practice using 3D and standard targets on more than 50 acres from dawn until dusk seven days a week. The club's tournaments include the Iron Man Shoot, which consists of three rounds and 10 hard-to-reach targets with one arrow per round.

Certified Instruction

Some Florida archery clubs offer instruction by those who are certified from the NFAA and the National Alliance for the Development of Archery (NADA). This includes Brevard Archers in Melbourne. Whether you are a beginner or a champion, you can practice diverse shooting styles at this club, from traditional to compound and Olympic recurve. Brevard Archers is a Florida Archery Association, or AFAA/NFAA Charter Club as well as an Archery Shooters Association, or ASA Charter Club. It also hosts the Brevard Archers 300 Round Invitational.
