How to Use Lemon Juice to Whiten Skin

Lemon juice has long been used as a home remedy to whiten dark spots. According to dermatologist Jerome Z. Litt in an article for Mother Nature, you should see results in less than eight weeks if you use lemon daily. For very dark spots or if the spots cover a large part of the skin, you might need to see a doctor for more invasive treatment. Otherwise, try lemon juice first to see if it works.

Step 1

Squeeze the juice out of a lemon. Don't use boxed or frozen juice.

Step 2

Wet a cotton ball or some gauze on the lemon juice. Squeeze any extra liquid out so it doesn't run into your eyes when you apply it.

Step 3

Lie down and put the wet cotton or gauze on the spots you want to treat. Or simply pat the skin until it's wet but without any juice running.

Step 4

Leave in place for up to 20 minutes. Remove if you feel burning or pain. If you have sensitive skin, start with shorter treatments and increase time if your skin doesn't become inflamed or red.

Step 5

Rinse well with cool water and pat dry.

Tips and Warnings

  • You can also try rubbing a slice of lemon directly on the spots rather than using juice. You can use lemon juice alone or you can mix it with cucumber or tomato juice, which are also good for skin lightening.

Things You'll Need
