Frostbite scars are similar to burn scars, only your skin is singed by cold rather than heat. Frostbite scars appear differently on the skin based on severity, location and your own propensity to scar. Frostbite occurring on the skin's surface may only need topical solutions to disappear. Burns that occur deeper in the skin tissue may require treatment in a clinical setting to remove it.

Step 1

Massage vitamin E on the frostbite scar daily. Poke a hole in a vitamin E capsule and rub the oil on the affected area. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps repair damaged skin, decreasing the visibility of the scar.

Step 2

Search for an OTC cream or ointment that helps fade scars. If your frostbite scars are mild, a topical treatment should suffice. Apply the solution as directed.

Step 3

Ask your doctor about filler injections for severe frostbite scars. Collagen or steroids are the substances used for scars. Injection treatment repairs skin underneath the scar, permitting it to gradually fade. This treatment often has to be repeated every few months because the substances break down in the tissue.

Step 4

Consult your doctor about laser therapy if you prefer a non-invasive method. Laser treatments are popular because they help reduce the appearance of pigmentation that makes a frostbite scar more noticeable.

Step 5

Prevent further skin damage by using topical repair creams within a couple weeks of receiving the burn. This will decrease the likelihood of an abnormal looking scar. Use sunscreen on scars when in the sun since UV rays can make scar tissue look worse.
