How to Troubleshoot a NordicTrack

NordicTrack is a popular name in the field of home fitness. The NordicTrack company's product line includes cross-country ski machines, elliptical trainers, bikes and treadmills. NordicTrack equipment is usually dependable and easy to use, but as with any machine, problems will arise from time to time. For smaller fixes, you can troubleshoot your NordicTrack in your home to get it running properly again.

Skier

Step 1

Plug the console wire in completely on both sides of the console if it is not functioning properly. Replace the batteries if the display is faint and difficult to see.

Step 2

Inspect the order of the pulley assembly if the arm cord assembly is screeching when you use it, or if the resistance knob keeps coming loose. Ensure that the assembly is in the correct order from pulley to resistance knob: 3/8-inch washer, thrust washer, 3/8-inch washer, spring and knob. Oil the leather pad and washers and rough up the resistance pad with 100-grit sandpaper.

Step 3

Remove the U-bolt cover from the flywheel to tighten the ¼-inch nuts on the right side of the flywheel if it doesn't have any resistance.

Step 4

Clean the bottom of the skis with paint thinner or a dry cloth if one or both skis are slipping.

Treadmill

Step 1

Check to ensure the treadmill is plugged in, and that the key is inserted in the console if the treadmill has no power. Also check the circuit breaker switch near the power cord, and if it is sticking out reset it and wait five minutes before resuming.

Step 2

Check the circuit switch, the plug and the console key if you lose power intermittently as you exercise.

Step 3

Unscrew the two screws in the front of the treadmill, then use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the hood up if your console is not working properly. Locate the magnet and reed switch on the left side of the pulley. Turn the pulley until the magnet and reed switch are in alignment with one another.

Step 4

Turn the bolts on the rear rollers counterclockwise to loosen slightly, or clockwise to tighten if the belt is not running smoothly or is off center.
