Dynastar Ski Information

Dynastar is a ski manufacturer located in Sallanches, France, near the mountains of Chamonix. The company, which is now a Rossignol subsidiary, makes skis for men, women and children and sponsors some of the world's top skiing athletes. Dynastar skis are usually sold with Look bindings. The company also has a partnership with Lange Boots.

History

The Dynastar story begins in 1963, when a company called Les Plastiques Synthétiques, manufacturers of Starflex skis, collaborated with Dynamic, another ski manufacturer, to create a new ski. The Dynamic VR7 was introduced in the 1964 Winter Olympics, and a new company, called Dynastar, was formed. The name represents the union between Dynamic and Starflex skis. Rossignol purchased the Dynastar company in 1967.

Types

Dynastar offers its Exclusive line for female skiers who stay on groomed terrain and the Exclusive Legend series for women who ski in all conditions. Male skiers choose between the Contact, Booster and Legend series. The company designs the Speed series for racers and the 6th Sense series for the terrain park and half-pipe. The "My First Dynastar" skis are designed for babies, and the Team series is suitable for older children.

Features

Dynastar developed the Omeglass ski in the 1970s. This lightweight slalom ski was composed of fiberglass, with an acrylic filler. The company introduced its Contact System in 1984, which featured a red, heart-shaped stabilizer at the ski tip. Dynastar's female-specific skis feature the Exclusive Balance System, which moves the boot center and sidecut forward on the ski, to accommodate a female's lower center of gravity. The women's skis also have an integrated heel lift, which moves the hips forward and allows the female skier to pressure the tips, as opposed to the tails of her ski.

Considerations

When you visit the Dynastar website, you'll notice that the skis are characterized as either "all mountain on piste" or "all mountain all snow." On piste skis are best for groomed conditions, whereas all snow skis work well in crud, powder or bumps. Each Dynastar ski description features a line graph, which shows it suitability for your level of proficiency and type of terrain.

Benefits

All ski companies have ski testers, but the Dynastar testing team plays a key role in all aspects of ski development. The team tests the skis in the morning, on the slopes of Mt. Blanc, known for its abundant snow conditions, and modifies them in the afternoon. While graphics should never be the main reason to purchase a ski, most Dynastar graphics are interesting and attractive and may serve as conversation pieces at ski slopes.
