An article on the Insight Wellness Journal website highlighted the damaging effects an unhealthy diet can have on your overall health. Elevated toxic levels, according to the article, manifest as headaches, fatigue, congestion and skin irritation. Detoxifying can help your body rid itself of toxic build up, encouraging the digestive system and organs such as the liver and kidneys work more efficiently. For a healthy Indian detox diet, consider following an Ayurveda plan. More scientific research is needed to fully support claims that necessitate detox diets.

Ayurveda Indian Detox

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian holistic health system based on the premise that the body can heal itself. Ayurveda uses food to heal, nourish and cleanse. Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs, spices, fiber and water for a period of time may help your body release toxic waste, improving your digestion to increase vitality and enhance your overall health and well-being.

Seasonal Detox

In Ayurveda an individual's personality traits and health needs are evaluated according to their dosha, kapha, vata and pitta. Kapha corresponds to the water and earth element, vata, to space and air, while pitta relates to fire and water. The Maharishi Ayurveda Self Care System website published an article highlighting the relation between dosha's, seasons and food types. According to the article, spring, a season ruled by the Kapha dosha, is the best time to detox. The ideology behind this practice, the article suggests, is based upon a belief of nature encouraging and assisting detoxification in the spring; as the suns warmth dissolves stodgy, sticky foods consumed during the winter. Cool cleansing foods eaten at this time can aid detoxification.

An article on the Fern Life Center website highlighted benefits of summer detoxifications. An overload of pitta dosha, the article informed, occurs during the summer season, which in turn manifests toxin related disorders. Astringent bitter vegetables and sweet juicy fruits are recommended to rebalance dosha's.

Khichadi

An article on the Just Cleansing website recommends you remove foods containing sugars, dairy and stimulants from your diet three weeks prior to your detox. A week before cleansing, the article suggests you consume Khichadi. This stew consists of brown rice, onions, vegetables, beans, ginger and garlic. Other variations of whole grains and vegetables are also recommended, allowing your body to ease into the detox, to minimize symptoms associated with sugar and caffeine withdrawal.

Fruits and Vegetables

The body is naturally designed to release toxic waste through the skin, intestines, lungs and kidneys. When your body is overloaded with toxins due to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, your body's systems may become overwhelmed and fail to properly function.

Seasonal steamed vegetables, soups and leafy greens cooked with cleansing herbs and spices such as cumin, fennel and coriander and herbs alkalize your body. Herbs stimulate your digestive system, to encourage the production of enzymes and bile to aid digestion, break down fats and assist in the removal of toxins. Sweet juicy fruits help detox, according to the Maharishi Ayurveda article, but should be restricted to the day, to avoid over stimulating Kapha . Stick to organic fruits and vegetables. Toxic residues from pesticides coating regular produce will inhibit the benefits of your detox.

Fiber and Probiotics

Include fiber such a pysillium husk to your diet to remove hardened fecal matter from the walls of your colon. Quinoa is light and easy to digest and has a cleansing effect, like brown rice. The probiotic beverage kefir can help keep your intestinal tract healthy and contains a higher level of friendly bacteria than yogurt, according to the National Kefir Association. Kefir helps eliminate unfavorable yeasts that disturb the function of your digestive system and cause candidiasis. The Maharishi Ayurveda also recommends drinking hot or warm water to melt ama, or toxic waste from your digestive system throughout the duration of your detox diet.
