How Many Calories Are You Supposed to Eat If You're Fourteen?

The average calorie intake for a 14-year-old is between 1,600 and 2,500 a day, according to Kids Health. Gender, height and level of activity are used to determine the exact caloric needs of a teen.

Gender

Girls' growth slows at about age 14, while boys are still growing, and therefore need more calories. A boy with moderate physical activity and of average height needs about 2,400 calories a day, while a girl, using the same criteria, requires about 2,000.

Height

Height factors into how many calories a 14-year-old needs. A girl who is 4 foot 10 inches tall and moderately active needs 2,000 calories, while a 5-foot-10-inch girl requires about 2,400 calories. A 5-foot tall boy needs 2,400 calories a day, while a boy 10 to 12 inches taller requires about 3,000.

Active

A boy of average height who is active less than 30 minutes a day needs about 2,000 calories, while a boy who is active more than an hour a day should consume about 2,800 calories. For girls of average height, 1,800 calories a day usually is sufficient, while a more active girl needs about 2,400 calories.
