1. You're all Grown up Now
By the age of 30, most people are done growing physically. While women tend to reach their maximum height and body mass earlier then men, when the 20s are over, so are the big growth spurts. You can go all out with exercise and not worry about affecting developing bones and muscles. By now, you know what your body is capable of, making it easier to choose the right regimen for your body type. In addition, you can't rely on your youthful metabolism to burn off excess calories from junk food rampages, making regular exercise even more important.
2. Habits die Hard
As you begin to move toward middle age and getting "set in your ways," now is the time to solidify those ways. Forge healthy habits that include regular aerobic and muscle-increasing exercise. It is much easier to develop healthy habits when you are 30 than later in life when it will be more difficult to overcome years of body abuse. Now is the best time to take preventive measures to insure healthy aging.
3. Friend or foe
The party crowd may have been fun and exciting to hang with in your 20s, but by now, you should be looking for friends that will be with you for life. Many people begin to settle down with families and careers in their 30s. It is also the best time to make some changes in your social life. Find like-minded friends who enjoy exercise and working out. You can form strong bonds around healthy activities and lifestyles. Ease out of those relationships that don't support your healthy lifestyle or respect your ideas.
4. Play to win
Identify a sport that will provide the exercise you require, as well as new friends or people with whom you might have more in common. As the demands of family and career impede on your life with all the stresses of adult responsibility, you can still play and get healthy at the same time. Team sports such as softball, hockey and tennis are available in most communities. Joining a pick-up basketball game or hiking with a club can be both invigorating and enlightening. You never know whom you might meet along the way.
5. It's a Family Affair
If you've started a family by now, there is no better way to continue with your physical activities than to include your children. Running strollers are great for parents of newborns. Plan outings and activities with your family that include regular exercise. Teach them to play your favorite sports and bring them along when you play. Don't get caught up on the parenting sidelines, watching your children move from sport to sport so that the most exercise you get out of it is walking to car driving them to practice and games.
