Subway offers nine types of foot-long sandwich rolls. Without adding a condiment or meat to a empty foot long Subway sandwich roll, you still consume over 400 calories just from the bread alone.
Calories
Subway foot long sandwich breads range in weight from 142 to 176 grams. The varieties of bread include 9-grain wheat, hearty Italian, honey oat, Italian, Monterrey cheddar, Parmesan oregano, Italian herb & cheese, roasted garlic and sourdough. Respectively, each empty foot-long roll contains 420, 440, 520, 400, 480, 440, 500, 460 and 420 calories.
Calorie Contribution
The fat content in Subway rolls ranges from 2 to 5 grams. Depending on your choice, the total calories contributed from fat content is 20 to 50 calories.
Considerations
None of the rolls available at Subway contain trans fat. According to Harvard School of Public Health, trans fat increases LDL cholesterol levels; this type of cholesterol contributes to artery blockage, resulting in heart disease. Some Subway sandwich rolls are high in sodium, which can also contribute to heart disease. A foot-long roasted garlic roll contains 2720 mg of sodium; however, the same size sourdough roll contains only 420 mg.
