Wheat is a staple food grown around the world. Wheat contains more protein than rice or maize and is used in making everything from bread to beer. Wheat grass is the roots of the plant that are not yet matured and is known for its medicinal properties, having substantial amounts of chlorophyll, enzymes and vitamins. For maximum health benefits of wheatgrass, it is often run through a juice extractor designed especially for this. There are two types of wheatgrass juice extractors: manual and electric. The two function slightly different from each other yet both provide the same service.

Step 1

Determine how much juice needs to be extracted. Typically, one 14-inch tray will produce around 10 ounces of juice. For less quantities, wheatgrass can be measured like spaghetti, with a 1-inch bunch yielding about 1 oz. of juice.

Step 2

Sit a cup or glass down by the spout of the juicer to catch the juice.

Step 3

Place the desired amount of wheatgrass blades tip down into the feeder. If you are using an electric juice extractor, turn it on before doing so.

Step 4

Use the plunger to push the wheatgrass down to the grinder. If you are using a manual juicer, turn the handle to masticate the blades of grass. Check that the cup is catching the wheatgrass juice as it is being extracted.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wheatgrass pulp may be run through the juicer up to three times to get the maximum amount of juice.
