Neilmed Sinus Rinse Instructions

NeilMed Pharmaceuticals offers a health-care product known as Sinus Rinse, which is designed for use in nasal irrigation. The product consists of a small plastic bottle and a number of individually wrapped doses of sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. By pouring these minerals into warm water, the user is able to create a saline solution for clearing excess mucus from the sinuses. Unlike other nasal irrigation products, such as neti pots, the design of the bottle allows the user to inject the solution without having to tilt her head.

Usage

Step 1

Wash your hands with soap and water, then unscrew the cap attached to the top of the Sinus Rinse bottle. Fill the bottle with approximately 8 oz. of warm, distilled water. Do not exceed the fill line labeled on the side of the bottle.

Step 2

Clip or tear the corner off of the Sinus Rinse packet. Empty the contents of the packet into the bottle of water. Replace the cap on the bottle, and twist it tightly secure. Hold the bottle in your hand, and cover the opening on the end of the cap with your thumb. Shake the bottle vigorously.

Step 3

Carry the bottle over to a nearby sink. Lean over the sink, and tilt your head forward. Insert the tip of the bottle into one of your nostrils. Open your mouth and continue to breathe naturally. Press the bottle into your nostril to create a seal.

Step 4

Squeeze the sides of the bottle to inject some of the solution into your sinus cavity. Allow the solution to drain from the open nostril. Continue to inject the solution until the bottle is half full. Avoid swallowing any solution that enters your mouth.

Step 5

Remove the tip of the bottle from your nostril. Blow your nose gently to expel any residual solution. If necessary, tilt your head to one side to allow the solution to drain from the other nostril.

Step 6

Insert the tip of the bottle into the opposite nostril. Squeeze the remaining solution into your sinus cavity and repeat the cleaning process. Expel the solution from your sinuses as before.

Cleaning

Step 1

Remove the cap from the Sinus Rinse bottle. Rinse the cap and bottle with clean tap water. Fill the bottle with distilled water and add a small amount of dish soap.

Step 2

Screw the cap back onto the bottle. Cover the opening on the end of the cap and shake the bottle vigorously. Squeeze the contents of the cap out of the bottle.

Step 3

Remove the cap from the bottle. Use a bottle brush to scrub the interiors of the bottle and cap. Rinse the bottle and cap a second time, and place them on a clean towel to dry.
