Getting the ball in the basket is the primary objective of basketball. The basketball hoop is also one of the most important features of a basketball goal and is always needed to play a game. A hoop is a completed rim and net assembly. Lifetime Basketball has an assortment of hoops that can be used for play. Some hoops are designed for recreational use, while others are for official regulation games. Setting up a hoop will allow you to enjoy basketball at anytime.
Step 1
Find a suitable base of support for the rim. This can be the side of a garage, basketball poll, or any other long object of suitable basketball height standing vertically. The base of support will give you something to attach the backboard and rim to. The height of this base of support should be 10 feet tall to meet most basketball regulatory guidelines.
Step 2
Attach the rim to the backboard. Line up the four holes of the baseplate of the rim with the four holes located at the middle of the bottom of the backboard. Screw in each respective bolt and secure with each nut. Do not make it too tight.
Step 3
Climb the ladder next to the base of support with assembled rim and backboard.
Step 4
Attach the rim and backboard piece to the base of support. Unscrew the four nuts from the assembled backboard and push the bolts through the holes in the base of support. Reattach the nuts to the bolts with the adjustable wrench so that the nuts are tight against the base of support.
Step 5
Measure the circular portion of the rim with the level to ensure it is level from left to right and front to back. If it is level, you can move on to the next step. If it is not level, readjust the rim by moving the bolts until the rim is level.
Step 6
Place the netting around the hooks of the circular portion of the rim. There are 12 small hooks to correspond with the 12 pieces of netting that need to be attached. The larger opening of the netting will be the attaching side while the more narrow area faces towards the ground.
Tips and Warnings
- You may need to use a power drill with a cutting device to make holes to attach the rim if your base of support does not already have them.
- Always have an extra person present when installing a basketball hoop in case of injury from falling.
