Vitamins protect the body from free radicals released during bodily processes such as digestion and respiration as well as recreational activities, such as drinking or smoking. Furthermore, the body consumes vitamins in the large intestine, where they're synthesized to aid in digestion as well as act as co-factors for enzymes. Subsequently, it is prudent to maintain a balanced diet to prevent a vitamin deficiency. However, vitamins are toxic when consumed in inordinately large doses. In addition to maintaining a healthy diet, many supplements are available as of 2010 that can supplement a diet otherwise lacking in necessary vitamins. Begin Taking Vitamin Supplements

Consult your doctor regarding what multivitamin or combination of vitamin supplements is best for you.

Step 2

Purchase recommended vitamins from a local pharmacy or drugstore.

Step 3

Take vitamins as per instructions on the bottle labels. Overconsumption of vitamins can have toxic effects.

Balance Your Diet

Step 1

Integrate meats into your diet. Beef, poultry and fish provide a multitude of vitamins necessary for health, including riboflavin, pyridoxine, biotin, thiamine, niacin, pantothenic acid and vitamin B12.

Step 2

Eat fruit and vegetables every day. They will provide vitamins K and A as well as riboflavin, vitamin C and folate.

Step 3

Begin your day with and snack on breads and cereals. Vitamins in grain-derived foods include riboflavin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, thiamine, niacin, folate and biotin.

Step 4

Drink and eat dairy products daily. Milk and derivative products offer nutrients such as riboflavin, pyridoxine, and vitamins A, B12 and D.
