According to UCLA's Brain Research Institute, the use of ginkgo biloba can slow down the process of memory loss caused by disorders such as Alzheimer's. The results of a study performed by the university show promising outcomes in women who used the supplement over a two-year period.

L-Glutamine

L-glutamine is one of 20 amino acids within human genes. It serves many purposes, including supporting the gastrointestinal tract and aiding the immune system. L-glutamine is also used to support the memory. According to a study performed by the Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine, L-glutamine helped improve memory. The study was performed on rats that were separated into three different groups. Rats that on a diet that included 2 percent of the supplement showed considerable improvement in memory function. The results also showed improvement in their learning ability, however, the study did not include the L-glutamine effects on humans.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid

Omega-3 fatty acid is an essential nutrient. It is found in fish, including halibut, tuna and salmon. Omega-3 fatty acid can be taken in the form of a gel or through food sources. It has been linked to reducing the risk of heart disease and some cancers, as well as aiding memory. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, omega-3 fatty acid is important for proper brain and memory function. Those with omega-3 fatty acid deficiency may experience symptoms that include memory loss, fatigue and mood swings.
