Many delicious foods are not healthful including fast foods, pre-packaged and convenience foods. These foods can actually deteriorate health by either clogging arteries or providing mega doses of calories. The 10 worst foods are ones that have little to no nutritional value, and ingesting these foods regularly may actually be harmful.
Canned Soup
Packing more than 2,000mg sodium per can, canned soups are not the healthy quick lunch that they may appear to be, according to Nutrition Action. Canned soups hit the worst foods lists due to their sodium content and packaging. Most cans actually provide two servings if you read the label closely.
Dried Ramen
Dried ramen packages may seem like a harmless meal or snack. Dried packages of ramen, although they are convenient to add water and heat up for a working lunch, contains more than 1,700mg sodium, according to Self Nutrition Data.
Cheesecake
A popular restaurant promotes its delicious desserts, specifically, the cheesecake. Stop that fork in mid-air because that cheesecake dessert is packing 1,670 calories and 48g fat, according to Nutrition Action.
Packaged Pastries
Pre-packed in sets of two, those all-American yellow cream filled pastries are loaded with fat, sugar and cholesterol. The fat and cholesterol content of these pastries fills arteries with a sludge-like substance that can lead to arterial and heart disease down the line.
Donuts
A delicious concoction of deep-fried carbs, donuts offer no nutritional value. The donuts can be plain, iced, jelly-filled or those cute little balls, but there is no whole wheat version of a donut. Loaded with fat, cholesterol and sugar, donuts consumed daily are sure to pack on the pounds.
Jelly Beans
Jelly beans may cure that sweet tooth craving, but it would be better to reach for an entire candy bar as opposed to one handful of those colored candies. The 1st Holistic website refers to jelly beans as "useless food," with a sugar content exceeding the recommended daily value in one serving.
Quiche
Quiche provides a delicious way to combine bacon, eggs, cream and cheeses, and even those with spinach still are not healthy. The1st Holistic website compares eating a slice of quiche to downing 7 tsp. fat right off the spoon. Some fat is needed by the human body for digestion of fat-soluble vitamins and cell membrane construction, but too much leads to heart disease and stroke.
Pizza
One slice -- and few stop at one slice -- of New York pizza represents 600 to 700 calories per slice, according to FoxNews.com. For the Recommended Dietary Allowance of 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, three slices of pie would almost meet 24 hours of the calorie allowance recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Burgers
A staple of the American diet, burgers hit the worst food list by blowing off the calorie charts. Burgers are not bad by themselves. It's the fast food version compiled with extra meat, bacon, buns and slabs of cheese that harden the arteries. In addition, any condiments will add to the calorie count, including ketchup, mayonnaise and special calorie-loaded sauces.
Soda
Excluding diet sodas, that cola for lunch probably provided the majority of empty calories consumed. Colas are man-made sugar concoctions that provide zero nutritional benefits. MayoClinic.com advises that drinking more than one serving of soda a day can lead to obesity and diseases, such as diabetes.
