Pinto beans are dried bean, similar to kidney beans, but with a light tan appearance speckled with brown spots. Commonly used in Mexican cuisine, Pinto beans are a good source of protein and dietary fiber and are low in fat.

A 1-cup serving of cooked pinto beans weighs approximately 173 g, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Within that serving, carbohydrates make up around 36 g, while 12 g consist of proteins and approximately 1 g is made of fats. The remainder is dietary fiber, other nutrients and water.

A serving of cooked pinto beans contains around 200 calories, total. Around 144 calories come from carbohydrates, while 48 calories are provided by proteins and just 8 calories come from fat.
