You may feel turned off by the numerous products on the market that promise to help boost your metabolism. None of these product claims have been evaluated by the FDA, so there is no guarantee they will work. Even if diet pills can increase your metabolism, the effects are not long lasting and will diminish once you stop taking the supplement. Instead, you can use natural methods to give your metabolism a boost to help burn more calories to lose weight.
Step 1
Eat small meals throughout the day. Eating small meals at regular three-hour intervals can help keep your metabolism going to burn more calories. Make sure you eat breakfast when trying to increase your metabolism, even if it is only a yogurt or piece of fruit.
Step 2
Consume foods that can increase your metabolism. Include a lot of protein to kick-start your metabolism. Choose protein-rich foods, like lean cuts of meat, chicken, turkey, beans and nuts.
Step 3
Take part in interval training. When working out, do interval training exercises to increase your metabolism naturally. Interval training means you increase your aerobic output at regular intervals throughout the workout. Aerobic activities you can do include running, cycling and swimming. Many treadmills and elliptical machines have interval programs built into their system. Try to spend at least an hour a day exercising.
Step 4
Get enough six to eight hours of sleep a night. If your body is not well rested, it will adversely affect your metabolism.
Step 5
Drink a lot of water. Stay well hydrated and avoid drinking caffeinated beverages, such as coffee and sodas. Aim to have at least six to eight glasses per day.
