Foods That Reduce Acne

Hormones play an important role in acne formation, especially during the teenage and young adult years. According to the Mayo Clinic, acne lesions heal slowly and can often be stressful. A variety of foods containing certain vitamins can help you combat acne, if you eat them every day.

Red Meats

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), red meats are a good source of zinc. Zinc is an essential trace mineral that helps to protect your skin cells and tissues from damaging free radicals. According to UMMC, some studies suggest that eating foods rich in zinc, in combination with the topical antibiotic erythromycin, may be effective in reducing acne.

Grains

Grains are good sources of B vitamins, which are important for acne care. Vitamin B-1 acts as an antioxidant and enhances circulation in the skin, according to the Vitamin & Nutrition Center. Vitamin B-5 helps to the body deal with stress, which may cause acne in some individuals. Vitamin Low levels of vitamin B-2, vitamin B-3 and vitamin B-6 may lead to acne, so consume these vitamins on a daily basis.

Carrots

Carrots are a good source of vitamin A, but the vitamin is also in beef, calf and chicken liver, reports UMMC. According to the Vitamins & Nutrition Center, vitamin A keeps the protect tissue of your skin firm and prevents acne formation by reducing the production of sebum, a natural oil. Too much sebum can cause acne.
