Available year-round, red potatoes are a healthy alternative to Washington potatoes. They can be baked, fried and even made into potato salad. Packed with plenty of the essential vitamins and minerals that the body needs, red potatoes are a good choice for a healthy, calorie-conscious diet.

According to Livestrong's Daily Plate website, the average medium red potato contains about 100 calories. None of these calories come from fat, as red potatoes contain no fat. They contain no cholesterol or sodium either, making them a solid food choice for a heart-healthy diet.

Carbohydrates

The same medium red potato also contains about 26 g of carbohydrates. About 3 g of these carbohydrates are dietary fiber.

Other Information

According to Produce Oasis, a medium red potato contains about 4 g of protein. They also contain about 2 percent of the recommended daily value for calcium and 45 percent of the recommended daily value for vitamin C.
