There seems to be a cheese for every taste and every occasion. The type of milk, additional ingredients and processes used to make cheese determine how many calories are in a one-ounce serving of cheese, so values are approximate.

Fresh Cheeses

Fresh feta cheese has 75 calories per ounce; Neufchatel and cream cheese have 35 to 99. Cottage or baker’s cheese ranges from about 150 calories to over 200 calories per serving depending on the fat content of the milk used. Ricotta cheese is one of the richest fresh cheeses, weighing in at between 340 and 428 calories, depending on fat content.

Softer Ripened Cheeses

An ounce of Camembert contains about 90 calories per ounce. American, Gouda, brick, Muenster and Swiss cheeses average from 100 to 107 calories per serving; cheddar weighs in at 114.

Firmer Ripened Cheeses

Monterey Jack has 106 per one-ounce serving and Colby 112 but they combine to form 90 calorie Co-Jack cheese. A slice of provolone contains 100 calories. Cheddar rounds out the firm cheeses at about 114 calories per ounce. Asiago contains 110 calories and Parmesan, 129.

Other Cheeses

Blue mold cheeses like bleu, Roquefort and Gorgonzola average about 100 calories per ounce. Processed cheese calorie totals depend on constituent cheeses and added ingredients.
