Finding a healthy balance between the amount of calories you consume and the amount of calories you burn is the recipe for long-term weight loss success.

Calorie Facts

If you consume more calories than you burn in a day, your body stores the excess as fat. If you burn more calories through exercise you will begin to use the stored fat and lose weight. There are 3,500 calories in one pound of fat.

Losing Weight

The more you exercise the more calories you burn. If you are also reducing your daily calorie intake, your weight loss can occur more quickly. A safe pace for weight loss is about two pounds per week.

Maintaining Weight

You can determine how many calories a day you should be eating by determining your base metabolic rate plus the amount of calories you burn through activity. Eating more calories than this will lead to weight gain while eating less and burning more will result in weight loss.
