Cooks make gravy from the natural juices of cooked meats, giving it a rich flavor. The drippings released from the meats are usually mixed with its fat during the cooking process. Some cooks use the fat at different stages of the gravy preparation process while other cooks prefer a gravy that is low in fat or need the fat for another dish. Whatever your desire, you can seamlessly separate the fat from meat drippings for your cooking needs.
Step 1
Remove the cooked meat from the saucepan or baking pan and set them on a plate, leaving only the drippings and the fat.
Step 2
Pour the drippings and fat into the gravy separator. Allow the drippings to sit on the counter for about 15 minutes as the fat slowly rises to the top of the separator.
Step 3
Pour the drippings from the gravy separator into the bowl. The spout of the separator is positioned near the bottom of the base, which allows you to pour the drippings without the fat.
Step 4
Scoop the fat from the gravy separator into a bowl and set aside for your cooking needs.
