How Many Calories are in Steamed Softshell Clams?

Softshell clams, also called steamers, longnecks or geoducks, are a type of bivalve shellfish with fragile shells found along the Atlantic coast. The meat of these clams is high in calories from protein and low in carbohydrates and fat.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a serving of 20 small softshell clams, cooked by steaming, contains a total of 281 calories. Proteins deliver 206 calories within that serving. Carbohydrates provide about 40 calories and fats offer 35 calories.

Total Caloric Intake

The same serving of steamed softshell clams can provide 14 percent of the total recommended daily intake of calories for the average person. This percentage is calculated on a standard diet of 2,000 calories per day.
